WHEN SHOULD YOU BOOK YOUR SENIOR PORTRAITS IN POLSON, RONAN, and the Flathead Lake area?
(Hint: The earlier the better!)

If you’re starting to think about senior photos, the #1 question that pops up is:
“When should I book my senior session?”
And the answer for Polson, Ronan, and the Mission Valley?
Earlier than you might think—because Montana seasons do whatever they want.
Whether you want sunsets over Flathead Lake, golden fields in Ronan, or mountain views that make your Instagram melt, timing is everything. Here’s how to lock in the season, the photographer, and the vibe you really want.
Why should I book early????

1. YOU ACTUALLY GET THE PHOTOGRAPHER YOU WANT
Montana photographers, especially in Polson and Ronan, fill up fast because our shooting season can be limited to just a few solid months.
Summer and fall are prime senior season, and the best dates disappear months in advance.
If you wait too long, you may find out your top-choice photographer is completely booked… and that’s the saddest email to send back: “I’m so sorry, I’m full.”
I HATE sending that one!!
Booking early gives you first dibs on:
• Prime golden-hour evenings
• Your photographer’s creative availability
• Having to decide between hiking with the visiting family or shooting your Senior Session when the weather is just right.
Don’t gamble with this one. If you know who you want, get on the books.

2. YOU GET FIRST PICK OF DATES AND LOCATIONS
Do you want:
• Wildflowers in the country?
• Tall golden grass in Ronan
• Sunset on Flathead Lake
• A dreamy field in Charlo
• Fall colors in Glacier?
These natural landscapes have short windows, and other seniors are eyeing them too.
Booking early = you snag the exact date that gives you the exact backdrop you’re dreaming about.

3. YOU’LL HAVE TIME TO PREP—WITHOUT PANIC
When you’re booked months ahead, you can actually breathe while prepping.
You’ll have time to:
• Order outfits (and exchange the ones that arrive 3 sizes too small)
• Plan locations
• Schedule hair and makeup
• Build a wardrobe that reflects your personality
When seniors book 3-6 months out, everything feels calm and intentional—no last-minute outfit chaos or Amazon-overnight “I hope this fits” moments.

4. YOU AVOID YEARBOOK & SCHOOL DEADLINES
Local schools in Polson, Ronan, Charlo, and surrounding areas typically want yearbook photos EARLY January, sometimes sooner.
If you wait too long…
• Sports kick in
• Early SNOW shows up
• Your calendar fills up
• Editing turnaround gets tight around holidays
Booking early keeps everything smooth.

5. EARLY BOOKING KEEPS THE WHOLE PROCESS FUN
Senior photos should be exciting, not stressful.
Booking ahead means:
• No scrambling
• No settling for a random Tuesday at 10 a.m. in harsh light
• No squeezing your shoot in before a thunderstorm. There is time to reschedule if the weather does not play nice on your first choice date. (one Senior we had to rebook 6 times!! Certainly an exception, but it can happen)
It keeps the vibes fun, relaxed, and full of anticipation.

Best Timeline for Booking Flathead Lake Seniors
BEST OPTION: 3–6 Months Ahead
Ideal for summer and fall.
You get:
• The best choice of dates
• Full flexibility
• Time to prep outfits, hair/makeup scheduling, and locations
Summer sessions? Book by late winter or early spring of your junior year.
Fall sessions? Book by spring or early summer of junior year.
NEXT BEST: 1–3 Months Ahead
Still workable!
You’ll have:
• A decent pick of dates
• Enough prep time
• Flexibility for changes
Great option if your schedule is busy but you know you want amazing senior photos.

THE “HELP ME!” OPTION: Less Than 1 Month Out
This is the scramble zone.
Expect:
• Very Limited dates, if any
• Fewer location choices as the season if getting cold
• Stress
• Rivals fighting you for the final fall colors slot
This can still work, but it’s not the chill route.

Your Senior Photo Game Plan (Mission-Valley Style)
1. Start Early
Begin thinking about your photos spring of your junior year or once summer hits.
Love mountains? Wildflowers? Rustic barns? Lake sunsets? Start dreaming.
2. Decide Your Season
Polson & Ronan options:
• Summer – warm evenings, tall grasses, lake views
• Fall – crisp air, red-gold foliage, sweaters
• Spring – I dont recomend due to it taking until May for the grass to green.
3. Reach Out & Book
3–6 months ahead is ideal, but 1–3 months works too.
Lock in your date and location before someone else grabs your spot.
4. Plan Your Session
Once booked, we’ll plan:
• Your outfits (aim for 5–6 with variety)
• Perfect locations
• Hair/makeup plans and booking with my stylist
• Props, pets, sports gear, etc.
• Weather backups—because Montana likes to keep us humble
5. Enjoy Your Session
Come relaxed. Bring snacks. Bring water. Bring your hype squad.
This is YOUR moment.
6. Get Photos Back in Time for Everything
Booking early ensures you’ll have:
• Yearbook submissions
• Grad party boards
• Announcements
• And plenty of Insta content
• And those beloved SPORTS POSTERS!
Wrapping It Up

Booking your senior portraits early in Polson or Ronan gives you:
• First pick of dates
• Ideal locations

• Peace of mind
• A relaxed, fun experience
Want golden-hour lake photos?
